Your Name: Carol Son Havener (daughter of William F. Son)

What country was this child born in? Vietnam
Date of birth for child (if not known, give an estimated date) born sometime between 1968 and 1972
Name of birth mother: Unknown
Last known address or location of mother and child Saigon, Vietnam
Were you and the birth mother married? No
When and where did you meet this woman? I don't have many details. My father had many girlfriends in Vietnam. In a short
time, he had two sons with two different women. He was very close in age to my oldest brother William. My second brother
is the one I am looking for. He was also called William although I do not know what his actual birth name was. After he was
born, his mother worked as a housekeeper for us in Saigon, living behind the house while my second brother lived with us. My
parents went on to have two more children while in Saigon, me and my older sister. When Saigon fell, Dad wanted to bring my
second brother back with us, but my mother refused. Dad is in poor health and has expressed great pain over the son he
left behind. There is also a possibility that my Dad fathered children with other women while stationed there.
What branch of military were you in? Army
Do you have any other details that may be helpful in your search? My Dad was named William, but called Bill by family,
co-workers, and friends. I don't know exactly where he met William's mother, but he was stationed at various bases through
Vietnam. It's entirely possible that William was abandoned at an orphanage since his mother was absent at the time of our
departure.

civilian contractor who was out of the military at this point and working for the State Department out of the Embassy before I left
there.
